Dog Cancer Diet Articles
As you can see, diet is a huge deal with this Protocol. Cancer loves carbs and grains. It loves your glucose to grow. Cancer cannot utilize fats and protein very well to grow. Dogs are carnivores and occasional opportunistic omnivores. Please give them real food that is also optimal for their biology. Like a high protein and medium fat level diet. Store bought almost always are not made this way.
Why Is Diet Ignored In Canine Cancer Care?
The disease that is the number one cause of canine death, with 1 in 3 dogs contracting it of any age. If your dog is over 10, the dog has a 50% chance of getting cancer. There are 6 million dog cancer cases annually, according to the Animal Cancer Foundation.
Something is wrong here.
We have diets to help treat obesity, to maintain a lean body condition, to dissolve urinary stones and help kidney problems, to treat food allergies, to help with pancreatitis, to decrease inflammation from arthritis, and even for old dogs aging changes. We have diets for large, medium, and small breed dogs. We have diets for sensitive stomachs and diarrhea. But dogs STILL have these high cancer rates. These commercial diets are generally still not made well even with addition or removal of certain company added ingredients.
Why no GOOD or proper cancer diet? I don't know. In my opinion (here comes the hate mail...) vets just seem to give in to cancer in general. But... It can be treated in many cases. It can be managed. It's symptoms alone can be dealt with even with absolutely no specific cancer treatment.
If you ate the same processed fast food and a bowl of cereal only EVERY DAY your whole life would you be healthy? What if you were genetically a carnivore and this is what you ate (were given)? Almost all processed dry dog foods are mostly carb AND it mostly comes from grain. This is not good.
Quote from a vet:
" Though I went to a great veterinary school (University of Missouri) that produced exceptionally well-prepared graduates for clinical practice, the bulk of my nutritional education consisted of a few hours per day for one week. That’s right – a grand total of one week out of four years for a discipline that is now one of the three main pillars of my approach to optimal health for pets. And that’s not the oddest part. Believe it or not, it was taught by a Hill’s® Pet Food company representative. It seems many of the veterinary schools in the U.S. use Hill’s reps to teach nutrition! I would guess the schools save money by not having to have a full time nutritionist on staff, or they get deeper discounts on their Hill’s products.
Hill’s is the maker of the line of prescription diets called Prescription Diet (though there is nothing really “prescription” about it) and Science Diet. You may have heard of their much imitated string of acronym named diets – R/D, W/D, C/D, etc. It was good marketing for them and a good start of a nutritional education for us. But, it was not enough.
And that was all there was. Most pet owners do not realize this fact, but I have just checked with recently graduated vets and the story is still very much the same."
