Not just Holistic, but how to use E: All of the Above!

I made this blog because I did tons of research on success stories and research worldwide and used it on my dog with nasal cancer named Lucy. So, now my hobby is molecular biology. The treatment uses combination of health store supplements, some prescription meds, diet changes, and specific Ayurvedic and Chinese medicinal herbs. I just wanted her to have a better quality of life. I thought this combination of E: All the Above (except no radiation or chemo and surgery for this cancer was not an option) would help that for sure, but it actually put her bleeding nasal cancer in remission!
My approach to cancer is about treating the whole animals biologic system. But I do hate the word 'Holistic'. Sounds like hoo hoo. This is science based, research based data and results of using active herbal compounds that happen to be readily available and common. Some call it Nutriceuticals. Others may call it Orthomolecular cancer therapy. Or Cancer Immunotherapy.
-Slow cancer cell reproduction
-Make cancer cells become easier targets for the immune system
-Kill the cancer cells
-Rid the cancer cells
-Remove the toxins it produces
- Stimulate and Modulate the immune system
-Control secondary symptoms like bleeding, infection, inflammation, mucous, appetite, or pain for a better feeling animal
-Working with your vet for exams and prescriptions that are sometimes needed when conditions are acute.
Just by using a multi-modal treatment approach that is as diverse in attack as possible. Both conventional and natural.
The body conditions that allowed it to develop in the first place must be corrected. If caught early enough, like with Lucy, this ongoing maintenance correctional treatment is all that was required at this point to achieve, so far, more than 10 TIMES the life expectancy given (more than 60 months) after diagnosis WITH remission. I did not use radiation or chemotherapy or surgery.
I hope this cancer research can help your dog as well.

My Lucy

My Lucy
In Loving Memory my Lucy December 2016
CURRENT STATUS - It was for more than 5 YEARS after Lucy was diagnosed by biopsy in March 2011 with nasal cancer that she lived. And she was in remission for 4 of 5 years using no radiation or chemo! Now multiply that by 7 to be 35 years extended!! She was 12.5 years old - equivalent to almost 90 human years old. She ended her watch December 1, 2016. I miss her so much.

Supplements to Reduce Side Effects of Chemo and Radiation

Supplements to Reduce Side Effects of Chemo and Radiation

Several supplements can radically reduce the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy.

• Ginger (for nausea and general cancer support, especially useful with chemotherapy and radiation)
• Coenzyme Q-10 (especially to support the heart; use with doxorubicin)   *is already given in my pill list for Lucy.
• Cimetidine - also known as Tagamet in the antacid area of store (general relief of nausea and loss of appetite caused by chemotherapy and radiation)
• l- Glutamine (for intestinal support when diarrhea is caused by chemotherapy or radiation; not for use in brain cancer)
• Cordyceps mushrooms (kidney support, for use with methotrexate and cisplatin; lung support, for use with lomustine)   *is already given in my pill list for Lucy.
• Indole-3-carbinol and Sulfuraphane (supplements which supports bone marrow when the chemotherapy drug cyclophosphamide is in use) - *Sulfuraphane is already given in my pill list for Lucy.

Keep in mind that all supplements should be used with veterinary supervision.

Dog Cancer Basic Premises and Definitions

Dog Cancer Basic Premises and Definitions

The following are a list of terms with definition that are important to know when you are reading or researching cancer:

Tumor:   A swelling, lump, or mass.
Neoplasm:   An abnormal proliferation of genetically altered cell.  A mass formed by an abnormal proliferation of genetically altered cells.  Synonymous with the word tumor
Malignant Neoplasm:  Synonymous with cancer.
Benign Neoplasm/tumor:  A tumor that stops growing by itself, does not invade other tissues and does not spread to other tissue (metastasize).
Pre malignant tumor:  A neoplasm that is not invasive but has the potential to progress to cance
Stage of cancer:   a number on a scale of 4 developed by the oncologists to describe the degree of invasion of the body by the tumor.

Below are a list of terms and definitions that are found in most discussions involving cancer:

Adenoma:  a tumor involving glandular tissue
Carcinoma: Malignant tumor derived from epithelial cells
Sarcoma:  Malignant tumor derived from connective tissue
Lymphoma and Leukemia:  Malignancies derived from hematopoietic (blood forming) cells.
Blastoma:   A tumor which resembles an immature or embryonic tissue

Symptoms of cancer may be divided into 3 groups:
1)  Local symptoms= lumps, bumps, or swelling, bleeding, pain,  ulcerations
2) Symptoms of metastasis= enlarged lymph nodes, cough, enlarged liver, bone
pain, fracture of affected bones, neurological symptom
3)  Systemic symptoms = weight loss, poor appetite, fatigue, anemia

The general scenario of cancer development occurs this way :
1. “Induction”  of genetic instability
2.  Abnormal “Expression” of genes:  too many cancer promoting genes and too few cancer inhibiting  genes
3.  Abnormal “Signal Transduction”:  Signals that come from outside the cell and go to the nucleus stimulate proliferation of malignant cells
4.  Abnormal “cell to cell communication”:  In cancer cells the mechanisms controlling communication with other cells doesn’t work.
5.   Induction of “Angiogenesis”:  growth of new capillaries
6.  “Invasion and metastasis”:  spread via lymph and blood
7.  “Immune  evasion”: cancer cells learn to shield themselves from the immune system

Basic Premises about cancer
1.  Results from failure of immune surveillance to detect cancer due to:
  • a.   nutritional deficiencies causing hypofunction;   dietary toxins
  • b.   GI and liver damage which allows toxin into body resulting in immune stress
  • c.   Immune system exhausted by environmental toxins
  • d.  Immune system exhausted by psychological or physical stress
2.    Cancer loves sugar
3.    Cancer hates oxygen
4.   Cancer loves an acidic environment.  Toxins are acidic.  Free radicals are acidic
5.   Cancer loves iron
6.   Free radicals damage DNA therefore antioxidants can help prevent cancer.
7.   Unlike healthy cells,  cancer cells can not make the enzyme catalase which is needed to destroy intercellular toxic hydrogen  peroxide.
10.   The liver is the most important organ to support when treating cancer because it is the major organ of detoxification.

Incidence of cancer in canines - Dogs today are more likely to die of cancer than old age. According to studies, 45% of dogs 10 years or older will die of cancer. About one-third of dogs die of old age.

Reminder - 5% of dogs achieve remissions longer than one year. We believe that longer survivals are not just a matter of luck!

New statistic - One recent New York State study showed that cancer in dogs has increased by 150% in the last four years.

Find a holistic vet AND a western vet

Find a holistic vet and a western vet that you trust.

Come to a balance of traditional and holistic. I have found that the animals who do best are getting treatment and advice from their western vet and their holistic vet. Consider seeing an oncologist (cancer specialist) to learn about all your options, even if you are against doing chemotherapy. Sometimes that means surgery and acupuncture. Sometimes it is herbal therapies with prednisone. Sometimes it is chemo with acupuncture and herbs to help with side effects and keeping appetite and immunity up. This is not a place to either/or. Use everything that is available. You don’t have to choose between the two. That being said it is very important if you are combining treatments to find a western vet who is open to you working with a holistic vet and a holistic vet who is open to western treatments. In some cases they are the same person who practices both modalities.
